Violent TV, video games must go
Apr 8, 2013 | thetimesherald.com

There has been much debate lately about the effects violent video games and television have on people. Psychological Science, a journal of the Association for Psychological Science, found violent video games increase aggressive behavior in children and young adults.

According to Science Blogs, a blog in partnership with National Geographic, more than 85 percent of video games contain some kind of violence.

What does this have to do with gun control? Gun-control legislation is being considered by Congress. The purpose of this effort is to decrease the amount of gun violence. The problem, though, is the measures reduce or eliminate weapons, but not the behavior that commits the violence.

It is not the gun that kills people; it is the person using the gun. In order to stop the violence, you have to kill the roots; starting with video games and TV programs that promote violence. If they were eliminated, children wouldn’t be exposed to them and they wouldn’t get the aggressive behavior.

We need to start at the roots. We need to ban violent video games and violent TV.

Let your voice be heard. Take a stand to protect your children and their generation. Contact Michigan’s two U.S. senators: Carl Levin, (202) 224-6221, and Debbie Stabenow, (202) 224-4822.

Take a stand on what is right.
